Traditional gathering and harvesting of kai.
Maori Kai and How They Harvest Food The maori's saved big quantities of food to feed their village and trade with other tribes. The maori's used to store food on an elevated platform before it get's stored in pataka which are storehouses. Still in the 21sr century maori's still hunt at the fishing spots. The maori's never cook their foods in the same building they slept in. Since the maori's didnt have pots they had to boil their food and water with red hot stones in a wooden bowl. Potato's could be grown easier than kumara and the pigs could be fatten really fast. each of the maori tribes had their own fishing spots which were protected by guardians. When the maori's were used to cooking with pots the only time they would cook hungi's anymore which is on special occasions.
